Methodology and data sources
Every number on the site traces back to a known source and a fixed calculation. This page explains them so you know what you are comparing.
Global ounce price
We read the gold ounce price in US dollars (XAU/USD) from spot gold markets through a public quote service and refresh it every 5 minutes. If the first source fails we fall back automatically to COMEX gold futures, then to the official daily price of the National Bank of Poland as a last resort. The displayed price is the mid-point between bid and ask.
Exchange rate
The Jordanian dinar is pegged to the US dollar at 0.709 JOD per USD (Central Bank of Jordan). We check a public exchange-rate service daily; if the published figure differs from the peg within a narrow band we use the published figure.
Global gram price per karat
24k gram = ounce price ÷ 31.1035. Any other karat = 24k gram × (karat ÷ 24). Then we convert to dinar at the exchange rate. This is the "global price" in the site’s tables, with no local margin.
Shop prices (syndicate bulletin)
The General Syndicate of Jewellery Shop Owners issues a daily bulletin for jewellers in Jordan. It has no website; it posts on Facebook and WhatsApp, and Jordanian news agencies republish it in a fixed wording.
The site reads the bulletin article from Ammon News (with Roya News as backup) automatically and extracts the 21k sell and buy prices plus 24k, 18k and 14k when listed. Before showing any number we check that it is within 8% of the global price of the same gram and that the karat ratios are consistent. If the check fails, the number is rejected.
When no new bulletin is available (Fridays, or before the morning bulletin) we show an estimate: the global price plus the usual Jordanian market margin (about 0.6 JOD for 21k, 1 JOD for 24k and 2.8 JOD for 18k), with a buy price 4.5% below the sell price for 21k. In that case the page clearly says "estimate".
Liras and bars
We follow the syndicate convention: the Rashadi lira is 7 g and the English lira 8 g of 21k, the half lira 4 g and the quarter 2 g, plus an estimated fee of 1 to 2 JOD. Bars (5 to 100 g) are derived from the 24k gram price plus an estimated bar premium of 6 to 20 JOD by weight. These are indicative because fees differ between shops.
Archive and history
Past days use the daily close of COMEX gold futures since October 2016, converted to dinar. Since the site launched we also store the actual syndicate bulletin for every day, twice a day. On global market holidays the last close is shown and labelled as such.
Updates
Global price: every 5 minutes. Syndicate bulletin: checked every 30 minutes and stored at 10:30 and 17:30 Amman time. Daily pages are created automatically at the start of each day.
Limits
The numbers are indicative only. The final price in a shop depends on workmanship, the condition of the piece and the time of purchase. The site gives no investment advice.
